Charlotte Cunliffe is the Principal Consultant and Director of Nonprofit Knowledge Works. She is responsible for overall project direction and design. She has more than twenty years of experience developing and managing strategic agendas. Her approach involves creating strategies that integrate the bottom–up efforts of the operating units with a top–down view of where the organization wants to go. She has worked as a chief executive officer, as part of a team, and as a consultant in both the private and not–for–profit sectors.
She is particularly interested in understanding and improving the way that systems work and is currently using her skills to better understand the human service delivery system and the role of information in creating performance–based nonprofit and government agencies.
Her unique approach involves careful study and research, testing of assumptions, and analyzing ways that interdependent parts of systems link to one another. She has an advanced knowledge of the business and management principles involved in strategic management, financial analysis, and strategic evaluation, and she is skilled at using key performance indicators to promote effective decision making and in creating a performance–based culture within an organization.
In 2005, she was honored as the Social Entrepreneur of the Year by the Tulane University Freeman School of Business for her work as the founder of the Greater New Orleans Community Data Center — now the flagship product of Nonprofit Knowledge Works. Prior to joining Knowledge Works, she worked with funders, nonprofits and community organizations around the development, use and dissemination of data and information for organizational decision–making. As a management consultant she staffed and directed data–driven market research, strategic planning and program management in healthcare systems around the country. Charlotte has an MBA from the A.B. Freeman School of Business at Tulane University where she concentrated in finance and strategic management, a masters in public health in Health Systems Management, and a Ph.D. in Economic Development.
